Miller Receives MVC Good Neighbor Award

ST. LOUIS – Senior Nicole Miller (Walker, Iowa) of the Drake University women's basketball team has been selected as one of 10 student-athletes to receive the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Good Neighbor award for the 2018-19 winter season, the conference office announced Wednesday, Feb. 27.
 
Miller, who has played in all 126 games in her career, has scored 760 career points, pulled down 304 rebounds, handed out 227 assists and made 117 three-pointers. This season, Miller is leading the MVC in three-point accuracy at 43.3 percent (26-of-60) while averaging 5.7 points and 2.4 assists per game. She has helped Drake win 20-plus games each of her four seasons, win four MVC titles and make two NCAA Tournament appearances.
 
Miller has a 3.82 cumulative grade point average in Health Sciences: Clinical & Applied with double minors in Psychology and Biology. She has been named to the Dean's List, MVC Academic Honor Roll (three times), the President's List and earned the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award. Miller will graduate in August with plans to attend Physician's Assistant (PA) school.  
 
Miller has volunteered at Blank Children's Hospital's ER, Meals from the Heartland, Des Moines Farmer's Market and Marshalltown Tornado Relief. On campus, she has volunteered for DU Good Day with Joppa Houses, Drake Dance Marathon and Halloween Hoops. Miller, her teammates and the Drake women's basketball coaching staff completed more than 1,000 community service hours during the 2017-18 academic year and are working towards the same goal this school year.
 
This year's winter honorees with Miller include Abigail Jockish, Bradley, Women's Indoor Track & Field; Sylvia McFadden, Evansville, Swimming & Diving; Alyssa Wiggle, Illinois State, Gymnastics; Elisabeth Peskin, Indiana State, Swimming & Diving; Rita Maurais, Loyola, Women's Track & Field; Loretta Stelnicki, Missouri State, Swimming & Diving; Crystal Florman, UNI, Swimming & Diving; Jessica Peck, Southern Illinois, Swimming & Diving; Casey Main, Valparaiso, Swimming & Diving.
 
In order to be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be in good academic standing, must demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service, and must participate in a sport, during the season of recognition. The Valley will recognize 10 student-athletes three times annually (fall, winter, spring), for a total of 30 honorees. Institutions select their State Farm MVC Good Neighbor Award honorees.
