Softball Falls at No. 12 Arizona, 4-0

Drake starts the Wildcat Invitational Friday with a 12 p.m. game against Minnesota (RV) before another contest with Arizona scheduled for 5 p.m.

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Drake University softball team lost to No. 12 Arizona (10-5), 4-0, Thursday night in the first of six games in Tucson.
The Wildcats scored all four of their runs off home runs allowed by for Drake (10-5) sophomore Nicole Timmons (Davenport, Iowa). Timmons, who fell to 6-3 with the loss, allowed 10 hits with six strikeouts and one walk in six innings.

The Bulldogs' 1-2 hitters, junior Mandi Roemmich (West Des Moines, Iowa) and sophomore Macy Johnson (Winterset, Iowa), each had one hit. Arizona starter Taylor McQuillin (4-4) allowed just two hits with 10 strikeouts and worked around four walks.

Johnson was the second consecutive Bulldog who was stranded at second base after her leadoff double in the sixth. In the previous inning, freshman Becca Barnett (Moline, Ill.) drew a one-out walk and moved to second on a groundout. But Roemmich struck out to end the threat.

The Wildcats' first home run was a one-out solo shot in the fourth by Alyssa Palomino and two batters later Dejah Mulipola connected for a two-run home run. Tamara Statman added a solo home run in the sixth inning.
