KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Using a shorthanded lineup, the Drake University women's tennis team was unable to hold off UMKC in a 4-3 loss Sunday afternoon.
The Bulldgos jumped out to an early lead with the doubles' point as
Carmen Palumbo teamed with
Daria Walczak to win at No. 1 doubles, 6-4, while
Liza Petushkova and
Megan Webb won at No. 2 doubles, 7-5.
However, Petushkova an Palumbo both dropped their singles matches with Palumbo retiring in the middle of the second set at No. 2 singles. Walczak scored a singles point for the Bulldogs with a 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 win at No. 3 singles while
Sophia Haleas earned a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles.
The Bulldogs dropped the No. 5 and 6 singles matches, with UMKC earning a forfeit win at No. 6 singles.
Drake aims to rebound in its next match at the Bulldogs face UNI April 5 in their first Missouri Valley Conference match of the season in Cedar Falls.
