SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. - The Drake University men's golf team finished the 2019 Missouri Valley Conference Championship in seventh place Tuesday, April 23 afternoon at The Club at Porto Clima.
 
The Bulldogs carded a final round of 306 for a three-round total of 921 (306-309-306). SIU won the championship as the Salukis moved past Illinois State for a 10-stroke victory. SIU finished at 859 (291-287-281) while the Redbirds finished at 869 (285-292-292). With their team win Tuesday, the Salukis earned the Valley's automatic berth to the NCAA Championship.
 
Three Bulldogs placed in the top 30 of the individual leaderboard with senior Tommi Avant leading the way at 231 (74-79-78) in 25th place in his final tournament for the Bulldogs. Close behind was Lucas Scherf who tied for 26^th just one stroke back at 232 (76-78-78) while Tim Lim moved up 10 spots and tied for 29^th with his final round 74 for a total of 233 (82-77-74) on the 7,060-yard, par-72 course. Chase Wicklund and Shayne Patel finished 36^th and 37^th, respectively, at 236 (77-83-76) and 237 (79-75-83).
 
Illinois State's David Rauer defeated Missouri State's Kory Franks in a weather-delayed playoff for medalist honors.
