DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University women's soccer team fell to Creighton, 2-0, in its first exhibition of the season on Wednesday night at the Cownie Soccer Complex.
The Bulldogs and Bluejays played three, 30-minute periods as part of the exhibition.
Drake generated six shots and three corner kicks throughout the night, but goals by Creighton's Juelle Love and Skylar Heinrich in the 20
th minute and 52
nd minute, respectively, sealed the game for the Bluejays. Goalkeeper
Kelsie Stone recorded five saves for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs nearly recorded a goal at the end of the second period, but the ball deflected off the left post.
Head coach
Lindsey Horner took the exhibition as an opportunity to evaluate her players in a live game as more than Bulldogs saw action. Five freshmen –
Rachel Panther,
Erika Townley,
Meghan Brown,
Delaney Goertzen, and
Olivia Thoen – made their debuts in a Drake uniform.
The Bulldogs return to action at 7 p.m. on Saturday for an exhibition match against the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames.
