Men’s Basketball Set for Foreign Tour Through Costa Rica

Bulldogs to spend seven days and play three games in Central America

The Drake University men's basketball team travels to Central America next week as part of a foreign tour to Costa Rica.

The week-long adventure will be the Bulldogs' first foray overseas since its 2015 tour to Denmark and Italy.

As part of the week, the Bulldogs will play three games against competition from the University of Ottawa and a team of native Costa Rican talent.

The Bulldogs depart Iowa Aug. 3 and travel to Costa Rica's capital city, San Jose, for a late-afternoon arrival.

The following day, the team will enjoy a guided tour through San Jose's landmark before taking on the University of Ottawa for a 5 p.m. CDT contest.

Aug. 5 includes an adventure to La Paz Waterfall Gardens, one of the country's top ecological attractions. That evening, the team faces Costa Rica Select and 9 p.m.

The team remains in San Jose Aug. 6 for a game and service project. In the morning, the team will volunteer at Holy Spirit Orphanage. That evening, the Bulldogs have a rematch with the University of Ottawa at 5 p.m.

Following that final contest of the trip, the team travels to Costa Rica's Pacific coast and a visit to Los Suenos and Jaco Beach. The team's second day in Los Suenos includes a zipline canopy tour followed by a day to enjoy the beach and the Pacific Ocean before returning home to Des Moines, Aug. 10.
