Bulldog Club Hosts 55th Annual Corn Feed

The Bulldog Club kicks off the 2019-20 season with annual event.

The Drake Bulldog Club held its 55th annual Corn Feed Aug. 26 in the Courtside Club of the Shivers Basketball Practice Facility.

The evening featured its traditional dinner buffet, remarks from director of athletics Brian Hardin, Drake University president Marty Martin and a special award presentation of the Paul Morrison Golden Bulldog Award.

Bulldog Club members in attendance also squared off against one another in multiple rounds of interactive Drake trivia with the table of Rick Wanamaker, Marcia Wanamaker, Nancy Stefani, Harriett Labertew, Elle Tubbs, Darrin McBroom and Blake Boldon taking home top honors.

The highlight of the night was the presentation of the 2019 Paul F. Morrison Golden Bulldog Award to Robb and Carolyn Hill for their tremendous commitment to Drake Athletics and the university community. The pair are both Drake graduates who competed in volleyball and football. Carolyn recently retired from her position assistant athletic director for Drake Relays operations following decades of service and giving to her alma mater. The Paul F. Morrison Golden Bulldog Award is presented annually to a Drake donor by Drake Athletics. The award recognizes the dedicated and loyal support of the Bulldog Club, and Drake Athletics through consistent exemplary service, leadership and financial support.

The Bulldog Club also honored the recipient of its annual Commitment Award. This year's honor was presented to David and Marcia Johnson for their service and dedication to Drake athletics. In addition to their financial commitment to Drake athletics, the pair has been a consistent presence at nearly every Drake athletics event and has helped provide the volunteer support necessary to host many of the Bulldogs' events.

Additionally, the Bulldogs honored two of their student-athletes with some of the most prestigious awards the department bestows upon its student-athletes. Football's Nathan Clayberg and softball's Nicole Newman were recognized as the recipients of the Howlett Award. The honor is given annually to the Bulldogs' top male and female student-athletes.

The annual Corn Feed serves an opportunity for an entertaining night in which the Bulldog Club expresses appreciation to its current members and encourages prospective members to join the Club, while mingling with coaches, student-athletes and athletics staff.

The mission and vision of the Bulldog Club is to serve as ambassadors of Drake Athletics to the public; provide leadership in financial support to Drake Athletics; and assist in the recruitment, cultivation and stewardship of annual donors to the Bulldog Club.
