Women’s Tennis Completes Day 1 Of Drake Invitational

Three-day event resumes Saturday at 9 a.m.

The Drake University women's tennis team advanced a doubles team and individual player through the winners' bracket on the first day of the Drake Invitational at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

In singles action, junior Carmen Palumbo defeated Augustana's Laura Arce Vieyra, 6-1, 6-2, to advance to Saturday's second round in the 'A' Singles flight.

The doubles team of Kendall Hunt and Liza Petushkova also advanced in the winners' bracket with a pair of wins. The duo dispatched teams from Augustana and Creighton by matching 8-4 scores to earn a spot in the semifinals of the 'B' Doubles flight.

Drake's Kelsey Neville and Megan Webb also won their first match over competitors from Creighton, 8-4, before falling to South Dakota's squad in the 'B' Doubles flight.

Competition resumes Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
