Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Second Day of Drake Invitational

Bulldogs to compete in consolation finals Sunday

The Drake University women's tennis team continued competition at the Drake Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

The day was capped by a Bulldog doubles team and single advancing to the title match of their respective consolation brackets. Both those matches will be contested Sunday during the final day of the three-day tournament.

In the 'A' Doubles consolation bracket, Drake's Carmen Palumbo and Maria Tatarnikova advanced to Sunday's final by defeating the UNI team of Zizek and Carr, 8-7, to start action Saturday.

Tartarnikova also had a successful day in singles action as she won a pair of matches in the 'B' Singles consolation bracket to move into Sunday's final. She began the day with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Creighton's Erin Epperson and followed that by taking down Augustana's Aleksandra Kistonova, 6-0, 6-3.

Megan Webb also won a match in the 'D' Singles consolation bracket with a 6-0, 6-1 win over UNI's Morganne Borsh before withdrawing from the competition.

The final day of competition at the Drake Invitational gets underway Sunday at 9 a.m. with the finals of the doubles brackets at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
