ST. LOUIS – Drake University senior forward Shanquan Hemphill has been named the Missouri Valley Conference men's basketball Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Monday, Dec. 14.
 
Hemphill, a transfer from Green Bay, led Drake in scoring on the week with 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game on 14-of-18 shooting.
 
He opened the week with a season-high 23 points in 24 minutes against McKendree, his most points in a Drake uniform. He also had six rebounds and three assists in that win. Against Air Force, he helped the Bulldogs own a 20-rebound advantage on the glass with 10 rebounds of his own to go along with seven points.
 
Hemphill has scored in double-figures in all but one game this season and leads the 6-0 Bulldogs in scoring at 12.5 points per game.
 
He leads the Bulldogs into their next contest, Dec. 16, at South Dakota for a 7 p.m. tipoff. Earlier this season, Drake defeated the Coyotes, 69-53, in Manhattan, Kan.
