Drake at South Dakota Postgame Notes

TEAM NOTES
  • The Bulldogs improved to 7-0 for the first time since 1979-80. It is the third time in school history Drake has been 7-0 to start a season. The 1970-71 team started the season with a program-best eight-straight wins.
  • All seven of Drake's wins have been by double-digits. It is the first time Drake has ever won seven-straight games by 10 or more points.
  • Drake's average margin of victory this season is 23.0 points.
  • Drake has won three-straight non-conference road games with wins at South Dakota, Kansas State and Air Force.
  • Drake is 31-8 in non-conference games under head coach Darian DeVries and 11-16 in road games.
  • The 18-point margin of victory was Drake's fourth-biggest in a road game since the 2009-10 season behind a 23-point win at Evansville, a 23-point win at IUPUI and a 21-point win at Bradley.
  • For the second time this season, Drake did not score 80 or more points in a game. Both those games have come against South Dakota.
  • Drake attempted a season-high 29 free throws. The previous season high was 18 against Kansas State. 
  • Drake improved to a 5-0 in Friday games under Darian DeVries
  • Drake's 37 first-half points were its second-fewest of the season. However, it was the seventh game this season Drake has led at halftime. Drake is 43-5 under DeVries when leading at halftime.
  • Drake took its biggest lead of the game at 23 points (75-52) with 2:14 left. It marked the sixth-straight game Drake has had a lead of 20 or more points. 
  • Drake shot an impressive 47.1 percent in the win. However, it was the first time in five games Drake had not shot 50 percent or better. 
  • Drake outscored USD in the paint, 32-24. Drake has outscored all seven opponents in the paint this season by an average of 20.6 points per game. Drake is averaging 44.3 points in the paint per game this season.
  • Drake held a 12-rebound advantage and has now outrebounded six-straight opponents. Drake has outrebounded three-straight opponents by double figures.
 
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • Roman Penn's season-high 25 points marked the fourth time in his career he has scored 20 or more points. He also had career highs in free throws (10) and free-throw attempts (11) thanks to drawing nine fouls.
  • D.J. Wilkins was 3-of-7 from the three-point arc and is 9-of-17 from the arc in his last two games. He finished with 12 points for his third game in double-figures this season.
  • Tremell Murphy's season-high 15 points came on a career-high three three-pointers. He added seven rebounds to mark the fourth time this season he has had seven or more rebounds.
  • Shanquan Hemphill's 12 points marked the sixth time he has scored 10 or more points for the Bulldogs this season.
  • Darnell Brodie's seven rebounds were the second most of his career. He is averaging 8.0 rebounds per game in the last two games.
 
SERIES NOTES
  • Drake improved to 11-3 all-time against South Dakota and 2-2 in Vermillion.
  • Drake's 18-point margin of victory was its biggest in the series since 1960.
