Drake vs. Chicago State Postgame Notes

TEAM NOTES
  • Drake improved to 8-0 to start a season for the second time in program history to match the 1970-71 team's school-record 8-0 start.
  • The win was Drake's 23rd consecutive non-conference home victory. The streak now stretches four full calendar years dating back to Dec. 19, 2016 against South Dakota State. 
  • Drake's 111 points were its most in a regulation game against a Division I opponent since Jan. 22, 1980 when the Bulldogs defeated West Texas State, 112-105.
  • The 44-point margin of victory was its largest since defeating Simpson, 98-53, last season.
  • Drake is now 32-8 in non-conference games under head coach Darian DeVries and 32-4 at the Knapp Center under the third-year head coach.
  • Drake's 47 first-half points were its most of the season, the eighth time the team has had a halftime lead this season, and the fifth time the team has had a double-digit halftime lead this season.
  • Drake's 18-point halftime lead tied for the biggest of the season.
  • Drake hit the 80-point mark for the sixth time this season and is now 22-0 when scoring 80 or more points in the last three seasons.
  • Drake came into the game shooting 52.7 percent, the 18th highest mark in the nation. Drake shot 60.5 percent against Chicago State to mark the fifth time in the last six games Drake has shot 50 percent or better.
  • Drake outscored Chicago State in the paint, 66-28 and has outscored all eight opponents in the paint. The Bulldogs have outscored the last five by 20 points or more. The Bulldogs have outscored opponents by an average of 22.8 points per game in the paint and are averaging a stout 47.0 points per game in the paint.
  • Drake's 47 rebounds were its most since notching 48 against Mount Marty last season.
  • Drake has outrebounded seven-straight opponents and has had double-figures margins in four straight.
  • Drake's 25 assists were a season high.
  • The win was Drake's third win on a Sunday this season.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • Joseph Yesufu recorded a career-high six assists.
  • Shanquan Hemphill's 21 points marked his second 20-point game with the Bulldogs. He is shooting 27-of-34 (.794) in the last four games.
  • Hemphill drew six of the Cougars' fouls.
  • Darnell Brodie had a career-high 14 points and matched a career-high with nine rebounds.
  • D.J. Wilkins was 4-of-6 from the three-point arc for 14 points. He is shooting 13-of-23 from the arc in the last three games.
  • Roman Penn's seven assists, along with 12 points, marked the seventh time this season he has had five or more assists in a game.

SERIES NOTES
  • Drake improved to 9-0 all-time against Chicago State.
  • The 44-point margin of victory is the third biggest in the series.
