DES MOINES, Iowa —
Andrew Alia and
Eli Shetlar of Drake men's basketball have been named Academic All-District selections by the College Sports Communicators, the organization announced on Tuesday morning.
Alia and Shetlar were key contributors in the Drake rotation with Alia making 32 starts in 33 games and Shetlar starting in 21 games over 34 games played.
Alia, a redshirt junior, averaged 7.0 points and 4.7 rebounds during the season and provided tough defense and numerous hustle plays crashing the offensive glass and diving on the floor for loose balls. His 53 offensive rebounds on the year were the second most on the team despite Alia being a guard. His undeniable hustle led to him recording two double-doubles on the season against Bradley (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Illinois State (15 points, 11 rebounds). In the classroom, Alia has a GPA of 3.84 majoring business law.
Shetlar, a sharpshooter from Wichita, led the team with 77 three-point baskets while averaging 9.1 points and 4.3 rebounds. Shetlar's 77 three-pointers during the season rank tied for 14th in Drake single season program history. In a career-best performance against Belmont, the redshirt sophomore went for 26 points draining eight shots from beyond the arc, which tied the third most three-pointers made in a single game. Shetlar owns a GPA of 3.71 in finance.
