The Drake University men's basketball team continues its four-game homestand Wednesday evening when McKendree visits the Knapp Center for a 7 p.m. tipoff on ESPN3.
The Bulldogs enter the contest in search of their 21
st-straight home non-conference win, a streak that extends nearly four full years. The Bulldogs own two home wins this season, over Omaha and a 44-point win last Sunday over St. Ambrose, to sit at 4-0 on the young season. The 4-0 start is the first for the Bulldogs since the 1979-80 and has been a total team effort a different leading scorer in each win and a deep bench that has accounted for more than 50 percent of the Bulldogs scoring.
Newcomer
Shanquan Hemphill, who has yet to lead the Bulldogs in scoring in a game, is the team's top average scorer this season at 11.3 points per game and has scored in double-figures in all four games.
Garrett Sturtz follows closely at 11.0 points per outing.
In their last win, Drake converted on 14 three-pointers, its most since the team's last meeting with McKendree in Dec. 2018. As a team, Drake is shooting 42.4 percent from the arc this season with
Jonah Jackson and
D.J. Wilkins shooting a combined 19-of-42 on the season and 13-of-22 in the last two games.
McKendree, an NCAA Division II program and member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference, is 2-0 this season with wins over Missouri S&T and Rockhurst. The Bearcats are averaging 88.0 points per game with six players averaging double-figures this season, including Brendon Gooch, a familiar transfer from SIU.
Following Wednesday's game, the Bulldogs close out their homestand Sunday against Air Force at 1 p.m.
