Men’s Basketball Aims To Rebound Against Evansville

Bulldogs and Aces to meet for the second time this season.

The Drake University men's basketball team returns to the Knapp Center, where it has won 16 of its last 17 games, to host Evansville Sunday afternoon. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. on ESPN3.

The Bulldogs return home following back-to-back losses on the road that marked just the second time in the last two seasons the team has dropped back-to-back games. Evansville travels to Knapp Center at 0-13 in the league standing and earlier this season suffered a 73-50 loss to Drake in Evansville. That win was the Bulldogs' biggest margin of victory in a Missouri Valley Conference road game in the last 10 years.

However, since Todd Lickliter permanently took the reins of the program, the Purple Aces have steadily improved and nearly won their last three outings. They are led by K.J. Riley's 12.8 points per game as the senior is nearing the 1,000 career points plateau.

Drake has run into hot shooting teams of late as in in the team's last three losses, its opponents have shot a combined 38-of-64 (.594) from three-point range. However, at the Knapp Center this season, opponents are shooting 35.7 percent from the three-point arc.

Inside the arc, Drake currently leads the Valley in 2-point shooting percentage in league games this season at 54.4 percent. The proficiency near the rim, led by Liam Robbins, has helped Drake lead the league in assists in league games at 16.2 assists per game, nearly three more per game than the next team.

In the series against the Aces, home court has reigned supreme as Drake has won three-straight games at home in the series and seven of the last eight between the two teams in Des Moines.
