TULSA, Okla. – The Drake University softball team dropped a pair of games Friday on the first day of the Tulsa Invitational.
No. 10 Oregon (16-0) beat Drake (7-9), 12-1, in the first game Friday afternoon. The Ducks raced out to a four-run first-inning lead and ended the game early with a three-run fifth-inning. Host Tulsa (9-7) defeated the Bulldogs, 8-0, in five innings in the last game.
Sarah Maddox hit her team-leading third home run in the fourth inning against Oregon for the Bulldogs' lone run of the day.
Mandi Roemmich had one single and
Libby Ryan cracked a double as the team finished with three hits.
Freshman pitcher
Allie Timmons (1-4) started and later returned in relief of
Hannah Pals. Timmons pitched 1.2 innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits with three walks and one strikeout. Pals went 3.1 innings and allowed six earned runs on 11 hits with one walk and two strikeouts.
Drake's offensive struggles carried over to the game against the Golden Hurricane.
Macy Johnson and
Emily Valtman each had the only hits as the team had just two.
Freshman pitcher
Mackenzie Hupke (2-3) allowed eight earned runs on 10 hits with six walks and zero strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
Drake plays Saturday against UIC at noon and then has a rematch with Tulsa at 2:30 p.m.
