Three Bulldogs Named to MVC Women’s Scholar-Athlete Team

Bulldogs continue to add academic honors

Three Drake University student-athletes were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete Team, the league announced Thursday, April 9.

Seniors Aimee Gerschke and Sigurlaug Jonsdottir and sophomore Kristen Giles all earned a spot on the honorable mention scholar-athlete team.

The three selections to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team are the most under head coach Rachael Pruett as the program continues to excel academically. Last season the team posted the highest GPA in the athletic department at 3.73.

The honor was the third of Jonsdottir's career as she previously earned honorable mention accolades in 2018 and 2019. As a senior, she posted a career-best scoring average of 78.7 before the season was cut short. During the fall, she finished seventh at the MVC Preview with a 54-hole total of 234 to take seventh place, her highest finish of the season and lowest 54-hole total. The native of Iceland owns a perfect 4.0 GPA as a computer science and mathematics major.

Gerschke was also having the best season of her career with a 78.1 scoring average and three top-10 finishes to help her to five top-20 finishes as a senior. At the Redbird Invitational, she carded a career-low 76-72-75 – 223. A marketing major, Gerschke has posted a 3.63 GPA.

Kristen Giles had 14 rounds in the 70s this season with an average of 76.9 in her 17 rounds. She was on a streak of three-straight top-10 finishes that included a 74-76-72 – 222 at the UTGRV Invitational. As a sophomore, Giles owns a 3.98 GPA in her health sciences curriculum.
