The Drake University men's golf team is set to host the annual Zach Johnson Invitational Sept. 28-29 at Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines, Iowa.
The two-day, 54-hold event will include the Bulldogs and competitors from Missouri State, Iowa, Iowa State, Omaha, Central College and Iowa Western. Competition begins Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start, followed by the second round. The final round tees off Tuesday at 9 a.m.
For the sixth-straight year, Glen Oaks serves as the host of the event, named in honor of Drake alum and two-time major champion Zach Johnson. The par-71 track measures 6,898 yards for this week's competitors.
The competition will be the first for the Bulldogs this season due to the COVID-19 pandemic and rigorous safety measures are in place for all competitors and spectators. Competitors will play in twosomes to maximize social distancing and wear masks when not competing. All coaches, event staff and spectators must also wear face masks and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
Last season, Drake finished third at the event with a three-day score of 896 and were just eight strokes off the winning total.
Nick Pittman carded the second-best round of his career with a final-round 69 for the Bulldogs to help him finish in sixth place as a freshman.
