The Drake University volleyball team continues its 2021 spring season this weekend with a rematch against MVC foe UNI and neutral-site match against Marquette this weekend at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The trip begins Friday evening with a 6 p.m. first serve against UNI. The Bulldogs return to the court Sunday to face Marquette at 5 p.m. Both matches are scheduled to be broadcast on ESPN+.
Drake opened its season 3-0 last weekend at home that included a 3-1 win over UNI to mark the Bulldogs first win agains the Panthers since 1996. Drake's last win against UNI in Cedar Falls came in 1983. The Bulldogs are 3-0 to start a season for the fifth time in the last seven seasons.
Against UNI, senior Emily Plock moved into the all-time top-10 in kills at Drake and now ranks 10th with 1,007 kills. Last season, she set the Drake single-season record with 472 kills. Plock led Drake on the opening weekend, but freshman Jada Wills was second with 34 kills and 36 digs. She opened her season with two double-doubles on the opening weekend. For her efforts, Wills was named the MVC Freshman of the Week.
Setter Caitlyn Smith, in her first season as Drake's primary setter, averaged 9.9 assists per set with three-straight double-doubles to open the season.
Following this weekend's matches, the Bulldogs return home to host Bradley Feb. 7-8.
