Men's Golf Sits In Fourth Place After First Round At ODU/OBX Invitational

The Drake University men's golf team sits in a tie for fourth place following first round play at the ODU/OBX Invitational at the Kilmarlic Golf Club in Powels Point, N.C. The Bulldogs carded a first-round team score of 282 (-2) to open play and trail co-leaders Delaware and Georgetown by four strokes. Tied with Drake for fourth place is host Old Dominion.

The Bulldogs were led by a stellar five-under par score of 66 from senior Lucas Scherf. Scherf sits in second place for the tournament after his round featured a blistering six birdies on the back nine. Graduate student Tim Lim carded a one-under par 70, and freshman Nikko Ganas carded an even par tally in a round that featured six total birdies.

"Overall we played pretty well," said Drake head coach Matt Lewis. "Lucas had a spectacular round today as he got off to a hot start and was able to finish with a 66. The team lead the field with 22 birdies."

Junior Nick Pittman finished with a four-over par 75 and junior Silvester Tan carded a 79 for the Bulldogs. Play will resume Monday with the Bulldogs first tee time set for 9:15 EDT. Following Monday's second round action, the tournament will conclude Tuesday with a final 18 holes.

"Tomorrow we could be dealing with some thunderstorms so we will have to be mentally ready for the conditions," said Lewis.
