The Drake University volleyball team has signed three student-athletes for the 2022 season, coming to us from Iowa and Missouri, head coach
Darrin McBroom announced Friday, Nov. 12. Set to join the Bulldogs next season is Macy Daufeldt (West Liberty, Iowa/West Liberty), Gabbie Schroeder (North Liberty, Iowa/Iowa City Liberty), and Addison Beagle (Liberty, Missouri/Liberty North).
"We could not be happier with our 2022 class. We are only bringing in three in the class, and yet we believe it could be one of the strongest classes to date. We are confident that this class will help us continue the upward trajectory of this program."
Macy Daufeldt, a 5-10 Outside/DS, has quite the accolades, named KWQC (2018) and KCRG TV-9 (2021) Athlete of the Week; Muscatine Journal Athlete of the Year; Prep Volleyball Frosh 59; Muscatine All Area 1st team three times; Class 3A All-District Team three times; QCT All Eastern Iowa 1st Team; All State 1st Team 2019, All State 2nd Team 2020, and two-time State Qualifier in 2019 and 2021.
"We are so excited that Macy decided to make Drake University her school of choice! I first saw Macy playing as a freshman with her 15's team at Iowa Regionals. She stood out as an aggressive offensive player and has only continued to improve over her prep career. As she had previously competed in the Drake relays, she was very familiar with Drake University and our campus. As such, she was our earliest commitment in this class. She has had an amazing prep career. She led her team back to the state tournament this year where she set a new class 3A record for kills in a match (33). She was also honored as the 3A All-Tournament team captain."
During the club season, she competed for the Iowa Rockets while also competing as both a basketball and track student athlete. Daufeldt is also a National Honor Society member with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
"We fully expect that Macy will be ready to compete for court time in her first season. She has a great vertical and a terminal swing. Those attributes will make her competitive from day one."
The classes' other Iowan, Gabbie Schroeder, is a 5-8 Libero that has helped lead Iowa City Liberty High School to three state tournament appearances. She also was voted 1
st Team All-Conference, selected for the IGCA Senior All-Star game while recording 804 digs, leading Liberty in total digs in a single season with 484 digs. Schroeder competed for Iowa Rockets Volleyball Club placing 3
rd in both her 2018 and 2019 club seasons.
"We have never pursued anyone in the libero role as early as we did with Gabbie. I saw her play during her freshmen year at Iowa Regionals and remember being very impressed with her even at that young age. It is sometimes hard for liberos to stand out and capture attention, but she did! We are very excited to welcome her into the Bulldog family and we are excited about what she will bring to our program.", stated McBroom "She has also had an outstanding prep career including two conference championships and three state appearances. She has anchored the defense for these teams along with her Iowa Rockets Club team that she has been with for at least three seasons. She now holds the single season record for digs at Liberty High School."
Along with her volleyball career, Schroeder also competed for her high school's track team. She is a member of the National Honor Society with a 4.0 GPA throughout her time at Iowa City Liberty High School.
"Gabbie is a strong competitor and I know that she will bring that edge into our gym. I am confident that she will be competing for time in her first season!"
Addison Beagle signs with Drake as a 5-10 setter from Liberty, Missouri. At Liberty North High School, she has excelled both on the court and in the classroom. Breaking her high school's assist record surpassing 3,000 career assists, she was named Missouri's 2020 Gatorade Player of the Year, Evelyn Gates Awards Recipient 2021, Under Armour 2021 All-American Watch List, AVCA All-Region 2021, Courier Tribune 2020 Athlete of the Year and Female Athlete of the Year Honorary ESPY in 2020, just to name a few accomplishments. She also led North Liberty to a Missouri Class 5A State Championship with a record of 24-0 in 2020, all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA in the classroom
"Addison was our #1 recruit for a 2022 setter. She came to our one-day skills camp in the summer as a freshman. We didn't know who she was, but she caught our attention. Her location and consistency set her apart from every other setter in the gym. We followed her prep and club career and it has been quite impressive. As we began recruiting the 2022 class, she was our first choice and we were so thrilled to receive her commitment to Drake. Since then, she has gone on to win the Missouri Class 5A state tournament as a junior, break her high school assist record, be named as a Gatorade Player of the Year, and win an ESPY!"
Beagle also competed for Dynasty Volleyball Club out of Kansas City.
"I believe that Addison will be the center piece of our offense for several years to come. Her consistency is the best that that I have seen and she is a fierce competitor! I have no doubt that she will be making use of her eligibility in year one."
