The Drake University women's basketball team will host two exhibition games prior to the start of preseason competition.
The Bulldogs will host Grand View on Wednesday Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. The last time the Bulldogs met with the Vikings was in 1981 when Drake won 97-60. Drake won seven of their ten meetings with Grand View.
Drake will then host Minnesota State Saturday Nov. 6 at 12 p.m. This will be the first meeting for the two schools in program history.
Wednesday's game will be head coach
Allison Pohlman's first with her new role. Pohlman was named head coach of the Bulldogs in April after serving as the associate coach for the past seven years. She has been a part of the program since 2007.
Drake returns two of their five starters, Graduate
Maddie Petersen and redshirt junior
Grace Berg.
Petersen missed four games last season due to injury but finished the season with a 12.2 scoring average. She currently sits in seventh place for all-time assists with 417.
Berg returns for the Bulldogs after a break-out season. She averaged 15.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. She earned MVC Newcomer of the Week seven times and later was named Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year.
Drake also returns 2021 Sixth Player of the Year,
Maggie Bair. Bair led the league in shooting at 58.7 percent. She also finished second in blocks with 45.
The Bulldogs added five freshman, including Iowa's Miss Basketball
Katie Dinnebier and one transfer,
Megan Meyer who spent two seasons at Iowa.
The Bulldogs were picked to finish second in the Missouri Valley Preseason Poll, behind Missouri State.
After their two exhibition games, the Bulldogs will open their season at home against Creighton on Nov. 15.
