ORLANDO, FLA. – Guard Jahvon Quinerly scored eight points in the final 4:29 helping No. 10 ranked Alabama hold off Drake, 80-71, in the second round of the ESPN Events Invitational Friday night.
After two free throws by Drake freshman
Tucker DeVries tied the game at 61-61 with 5:16 left, the Crimson Tide scored six straight points to mount a 67-61 lead it never relinquished. DeVries came off the bench scoring 15 points.
Drake only made two baskets, while missing two free throws and committing one turnover in its final nine possessions to close out the game.

D.J. Wilkins scored a season high 17 points before being sidelined to the bench with nine minutes to go after suffering a cramp injury. Drake forward Shanquan Hemphill added a season-high 15 points along with six rebounds.

Garrett Sturtz continued his steady play for the Bulldogs with a game-high three steals.

Roman Penn had six assists, six rebounds and two steals before fouling out.
Alabama enjoyed a 33-18 lead with 3:46 left before Drake closed out the first half on an 11-0 run fueled by seven points from Hemphill including a three-point jumper at the buzzer.
Drake shot 42.9 percent from the floor (27-63).
Drake forced Alabama into 17 turnovers, scoring 19 points off those miscues.
