20 points by Megan Meyer in her debut for Drake sparks first win for Allison Pohlman as Drake Head Coach

In Suzie Glazer Burt Head Coach Allison Pohlman's first game at the helm of the storied Drake women's basketball program, the multiple new faces impressed Bulldog fans.

Grand View briefly led 5-4 following a three by Grand View's Brianna Jensen at the 7:50 mark, but the Bulldogs immediately regained the lead on a layup by Berg. Back and forth scoring by both teams rounded out the first quarter with the Bulldogs holding a five-point advantage 13-8.

A field goal by Maggie Bair to start 2nd quarter began a 17-0 run by the Bulldogs opening their lead to 30-8 with 6:07 to play in the half. A steady dose of second quarter offensive output and defensive performance by the Bulldogs extended their lead to 18 with a 37-19 advantage as time expired to close the first half of play.

The Bulldogs continued their offensive firepower shooting 66% in the second half. Following a quick two-pointer by Grand View, Drake scored the next 12 points, seven of which were tallied by Grace Berg. A layup from Megan Meyer with 2:51 to play extended the lead to 57-29. The quarter closed with a buzzer-beating layup by freshman Katie Dinnebier to bring Drake's lead to 34 at 67-34.

Grace Berg reminded Bulldog fans why she was named the 2021 MVC Newcomer of the Year as she filled multiple stat categories. The redshirt junior from Indianola, IA finished with 16 points, two rebounds, one block, and one assist in 24 minutes of action.

Multiple freshmen also shined in their first game as Bulldogs. 2021 Iowa Ms. Basketball Katie Dinnebier got the start in her first game wearing the blue and white.
