Volleyball Sweeps SIU, 3-0

Kylee Macke sets new Drake digs record at 2,432 and counting.

On the night Drake senior Kylee Macke set the all-time digs record, the Drake University volleyball team swept Southern Illinois 3-0.

Macke set the all-time digs record with her fifth dig in the second set. It was Macke's 2,424th dig of her career, eclipsing the record previously held by Alana Wittenburg who competed for Drake from 2007-10. Macke finished with 12 digs in the match bringing her all-time Drake record to 2,432 and counting.

Drake (10-12, 5-9 MVC) and SIU (5-23, 0-15 MVC) traded back and forth scoring through the first half of the opening set, with the Bulldogs holding a 15-12 advantage at the first commercial break. Haley Bush led Drake with six kills and five digs in set one and the Bulldogs closed out with a 25-20 win.

Scores on a block by Ashlynn Kuhn and a tip by Mariana Rodrigues opened a 6-2 advantage for Drake in set two prompting a Southern Illinois timeout. Drake continued the momentum coming out of the timeout with another block by Kuhn and a kill by Bush. Macke set the digs record midway through the second set with the Bulldogs leading 12-7, and Drake rode that momentum to a 25-15 win.

Set three opened with both teams trading points. Consecutive points by Bush opened a 14-11 advantage for Drake. Coming out of the commercial break a Lindsey Pliapol kill and Saluki hitting error allowed Drake to extend their lead at 17-14. The match remained tight and a service ace by Kacie Rewerts at 21-19 led to a SIU timeout. A kill by Lioapol ended the final set 25-22 and brought a 3-0 sweep for the Bulldogs.

Drake was led by 20 kills from Haley Bush and a .500 hitting percentage by Mariana Rodrigues. Maddie Holt garnered 27 assists.

The Bulldogs will savor wins over Missouri State and Southern Illinois in consecutive days before preparing this week for a road trip to Evansville November 12 and Indiana State November 13.
