ST. LOUIS – Drake indoor track athletes Yinka Mary Ajayi and Isaac Basten both earned Missouri Valley Conference Athlete of the Week honors, the league announced on Tuesday (Dec. 14).
 
Ajayi got off to an incredible start to the season by winning the women's 200 meter dash with a time of 24.38 at the Jimmy Grant Invitational hosted by Iowa on Saturday (Dec. 11). The Offa, Nigeria native was only .02 off from tying her own school record that she set last season.
 
Basten became just the second Drake runner to ever break the 4-minute mile barrier, joining teammate Adam Fogg who accomplished the feat last year. The native of Buffalo, Minn., ran a blazing fast mile time of 3:58.88 at the Iowa State Holiday Invitational, which is the second fastest mile time in school history.
 
Drake track & field will compete again Jan. 14-15 at Nebraska's Graduate Classic.
