The Lancers are headed to Des Moines on a one-game losing streak after falling to Sam Houston on Nov. 30 by one point. Junior guard Kyla McMakin led the Lancers with 26 points against Sam Houston.

Longwood is led by senior forward Akila Smith, who recorded the most rebounds on the team in all by two games this season. She also recorded a team high in points in two of six games this season. Smith is the reigning Big South Conference Defense Player of the Year.

Longwood was picked third in the Big South Preseason Poll. McMakin and Smith were both named preseason All-Big South.
