Drake vs. Loyola Postgame Notes - Feb. 13

TEAM NOTES

Drake slipped to 19-2 overall including a 10-2 mark in the MVC. The 19 wins remain the eighth-most in program history while the 10 MVC wins are seventh-most in program history.
The home loss was the Bulldogs' first loss at the Knapp Center this season and just the fifth loss at home in the last three years. Drake is 38-5 at home during that span.
Drake was held to a season-low 54 points
Drake's seven assists were its second-lowest output of the season
Drake was outrebounded (32-22) for just the third time in 21 games this season.
Loyola's 27-point lead in the second half was the biggest deficit the Bulldogs have faced this season.
Loyola shot 63.8 percent, the highest percentage by a Drake opponent this season. The Ramblers are just the second opponent to shoot 50 percent or better against the Bulldogs this season. The Ramblers' 81 points were the most by a Drake opponent this season.
Drake was outscored in the paint, 42-28 to mark the third time this season Drake has been outscored in the paint.
The 34 points scored by Drake in first half were the most Loyola has allowed an opponent in Valley play
Drake suffered its first loss in 15 games when Roman Penn dishes out five or more assists in a game. He finished with six assists - all in the first half.
Drake led at halftime for the 17th time this season but this marked the first time the Bulldogs had lost when owning a halftime lead.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

Issa Samake set a career-high with five points and scored the last five points of the first half. He also saw a season-high 17 minutes on the floor.
Garrett Sturtz started for the first time since November 2019, in place of ShanQuan Hemphill. He had 10 points and it was the eighth time this season he scored in double digits. He also grabbed six rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Roman Penn had six assists and moved into eighth in the Drake record books for all-time assists with 309 career assists in less than two full seasons of action.
Darnell Brodie had 12å points for the Bulldogs but found himself in foul trouble for the fifth time this season. This was the second time he fouled out.
Joseph Yesufu scored nine points and has scored nine or more points in four-straight games.

SERIES NOTES

Drake suffered its second straight loss to Loyola and fell to 13-21 against the Ramblers including a 4-4 mark in the Knapp Center. Loyola has won 8 of its last 11 meetings against Drake.
This was Loyola's widest margin of victory in the series against Drake.
