CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Drake University women's basketball team is set to play its final road game of the regular season Wednesday at UNI. The in-state matchup will start at 6 p.m. and be streamed on ESPN3.
Drake (12-10, 10-5 MVC) will look to bounce back after it dropped a pair of road games at Illinois State this past weekend. The Bulldogs had their 15-game winning streak over the Redbirds snapped. Drake's impressive streak was the longest current winning streak in the Valley over an MVC opponent.
Drake moved closer to full strength with its roster in Normal with the returns of sophomore
Maggie Bair and redshirt junior
Kierra Collier from injuries. Bair missed five games while Collier missed four games.
Wednesday will be the second game between Drake and UNI. In the first game on Jan. 27 at the Knapp Center, the Bulldogs led the Panthers from start to finish in an 96-79 win.
UNI (10-10, 7-6 MVC), which is in the middle of season-long five game homestand, split with Loyola last weekend at the McLeod Center. Senior Karli Rucker averages a team-leading 13.4 points per game.
Drake (77.4) and UNI (71.3) are the top two scoring teams in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Bulldogs also lead in team field goal percentage (48.0) and three-point percentage (37.6). UNI is fourth in field goal percentage (41.7) and three-point percentage (32.9) and ranks first in free throw percentage (76.0) ahead of Drake (73.4)
The Bulldogs close the regular season March 5-6 against Valparaiso at the Knapp Center. Tipoff for the March 5 game is scheduled for 5 p.m. while the season finale is set for 3 p.m.
