Drake vs. Valparaiso - Postgame Notes (Feb. 6)

TEAM NOTES
  • Drake improved its school-record start to 18-0. The 18 straight wins are the second most in program history and tied for the second-longest by any of Iowa's four Division I programs behind only the Bulldogs' 21-straight wins in 2007-08.
  • Drake's 18 straight wins equal the fourth best start ever by a Missouri Valley Conference school, sharing an 18-0 start by Oklahoma in 1927-28.
  • Drake's 18 straight wins also equals the sixth-longest winning streak ever by a Missouri Valley Conference team, sharing an 18-game winning streak by Bradley from 1959-60 into 1960-61.
  • Drake is 9-0 in Valley play for the first time since 2007-08 and the third time in program history
  • Drake outrebounded Valparaiso 47-27 to improve to 49-7 in the last three seasons when outrebounding its opponent, including 16-0 this season. The 20-rebound advantage was the third by the Bulldogs this season.
  • The 20-rebounding advantage was Drake's widest in Valley play this season while marking the eighth time the Bulldogs have outrebounded an opponent by double digits.
  • The road win was Drake's seventh road win of the season. The Bulldogs are 16-17 on the road under head coach Darian DeVries. Drake now owns 11 league road wins the last two seasons.
  • Drake hit the 80-point mark for the 11th time this season and improved to 27-0 under DeVries when scoring 80 or more points in a game
  • Drake shot 53.2 percent (33-62) from the floor, marking the 11th game this season the Bulldogs have shot 50 percent or better
  • Drake tied a season-high with 47 rebounds, equalling the previous season-high of 47 against Chicago State
  • When Drake faced a 6-point, 25-19, deficit in the first half, it marked just the sixth time this season the Bulldogs have trailed by five or more points in a game this season.
  • Valparaiso's 12 three-pointers were the most Drake has given up this year, while marking the first time a Valley opponent had made 10 or more three-pointers against Drake
  • Valparaiso's 43 first-half points were the most allowed by Drake this season 
  • Drake had a season-low two steals, while the five three-point baskets were its second lowest single-game output this season
  • Drake trailed at halftime for the third time this season. The 8-point halftime deficit was its second biggest halftime deficit of the season.
  • When Valpo extended its lead to 10 points, it marked just the fourth time this season Drake has faced a double-digit deficit this season. 
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
  • ShanQuan Hemphill (18 pts/12 reb) and Tremell Murphy (11 pts/11 reb) both recorded double-doubles, the first time this season two Bulldogs have had double-doubles in the same game. They were the fifth and sixth double-doubles recorded by the Bulldogs this season. Hemphill's double-double was his first of the season. Murphy's his first of the season and third of his Drake career.
  • Hemphill's 12 rebounds were a season-high as were his 16 shots. It was the 16th game he has scored in double-figures this season.
  • Joseph Yesufu finished with 12 points, his seventh game in double figures this season. 
  • Roman Penn's seven assists marked his 13th game this season with five or more assists.
  • Darnell Brodie had eight points and seven rebounds. In his last three games, he is 15-of-20 from the field. He has also had eight assists in those three games.

SERIES NOTES
  • Drake improves its series record to 6-7 against Valparaiso, having won four of the last five games. The Bulldogs are 3-5 in games played at Valparaiso.
  • Drake's 80 points were its third most in the series and Valparaiso's 77 were its second most.
