DADE CITY, Fla. - The Drake University men's golf team finished tied for second place at the Earl Yestingsmeier Match Play hosted by Ball State University at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club in Dade City, Fla.
Drake beat fellow Missouri Valley Conference member, Loyola Chicago, 4-2, on Tuesday to finish with two overall points for a tie with Ball State. UConn won the tournament with three points after its convincing 5-1 win over Evansville Tuesday.
Senior
Tim Lim closed out an exceptional two days for the Bulldogs with his third win in the No. 1 match. Lim dominated Tuesday with a 6&5 victory.
Kyle MacDonald won his match Tuesday to go 2-0-1 while
Lucas Scherf and
Silvester Tan claimed victories over the Ramblers.
"Tim was solid all three matches," said head coach
Matt Lewis. "He definitely led by his great play. Overall, I thought we played well. We got off to a slow start in our first match. I think we were a little rusty but gained confidence throughout the day. Proud how everyone competed in all three matches. It was a great team effort and the guys battled on every hole. This was a great first tournament for us."
Tuesday's win by Drake followed Monday when UConn defeated the Bulldogs, 4.5-1.5, in the morning before Drake bounced back with a 4-2 win over Ball State in the afternoon.
