The Drake University men's tennis team opened up Summit League competition Sunday at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center with a 5-2 win over visiting Illinois State.
 
The win was the Bulldogs' first of the season as they prevailed over their league rivals and sealed the match a 4-0 before the final 5-2 tally.
 
Drake won all three doubles matches to claim the doubles points and then Oliver Johansson opened singles play with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles. Evan Fragistas followed that with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles and Markus Bolin sealed the match for the Bulldogs with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.
 
After the win had been secured, Benedek Herman claimed a 6-7, 6-0, 10-8 victory at No. 2 singles to account for the final point from the Bulldogs. 
 
The Bulldogs' schedule continues next weekend with matches at DePaul and Western Michigan March 6 and 7.
