Volleyball Travels To Indiana State

Bulldogs begin the second half of the season against the Sycamores

The Drake University volleyball team heads to Indiana State this weekend for the first road conference series in four weeks. The Bulldogs prepare to play the Sycamores at 2 p.m. Sunday and then 4 p.m. Monday. Both matches can be viewed via ESPN+.

The Bulldogs reasserted themselves this past weekend with two wins over Evansville both by a 3-1 margin. The wins improved Drake's record to 6-4 within the MVC, allowing them to move into fifth place in the conference and 8-5 overall.

While many Bulldogs played well this past weekend, two stood out; Emily Plock was named MVC Volleyball Player of the Week and Kylee Macke was named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week. Plock combined for 42 kills while Macke accumulated 60 total digs over the two matches.

At the halfway point of the league season, many Bulldogs have positioned themselves towards the top of the conference in different areas. Haley Bush leads the league in kills averaging 4.3 kills a set while also standing in eighth place in hitting percentage with .265 on the season. Caitlyn Smith is third in the conference for assists, averaging 10.12 assists per set. Gillian Gergen, at second place, dominates the blocking aspect of the game averaging 1.08 blocks a set. Lastly, Macke is runner-up in digs per set with 5.92.

Indiana State (6-7, 6-6 MVC) sits in seventh place in the conference. The Sycamores swept Southern Illinois in a series last weekend, winning the first match 3-0 and the second 3-1. Taylor Shelton led the Sycamores with a combined 19 kills over the two matches. Drake split the series with Indiana State last year, winning the first match 3-2 and losing the second, 3-1. The Bulldogs have won ten of the last 12 meetings.

After this conference series, the Bulldogs are back at home in the Knapp Center against Southern Illinois on Mar. 21-22.
