Drake University head men's basketball coach
Darian DeVries has been named the National Association of Basketball Coaches District 16 Coach of the Year and the U.S. Basketball Writers Association District 6 Coach of the Year, the organizations announced Tuesday, March 16.
DeVries, the 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year, added the most recent honors after guiding the Bulldogs to their fifth all-time NCAA Tournament Appearance this week.
The NCAA berth, the program's first at-large selection in program history, comes after he helped direct the team to a 25-4 record. The 25 wins are the third-most in program history and the team's 15 MVC wins equaled a program best. The 25 wins marked the third 20-win season DeVries has engineered in three seasons at the program's helm.
Earlier this month, DeVries was also named a semifinalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year Award.
The Bulldogs season continues Thursday evening at the NCAA Tournament with a First Four contest against Wichita State at 5:27 p.m. CDT.
