Junior linebacker Declan Carr of the Drake University football team is the Pioneer Football League Defensive Player of the Week, the PFL announced Sunday, March 21. It is the first PFL Defensive Player of the Week award in his career.
 
Carr nabbed his first career interception and tallied a team-leading seven tackles as Drake earned a 17-6 road victory at Valparaiso. Carr's interception came in Valparaiso territory and his 15-yard return set up Drake at the Valparaiso 18-yard line late in the third quarter. Five plays later Drake scored the game's final touchdown to seal the victory. The native of Frankfort, Ill. also had two pass breakups to lead a defensive that held Valparaiso to 216 offensive yards and 135 passing yards. 
 
Carr and his teammates travel to DeLand, Fla., on March 27 to face Stetson. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 p.m. and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
