Volleyball Ready For Last Conference Series

The Bulldogs travel to Chicago, Ill. to face to Ramblers.

The Drake University volleyball team will march over to Chicago, Ill. this weekend to challenge Loyola for the last MVC series of the season. Both the Saturday and Sunday matches will begin at 4 p.m. on their respective day. Saturday's match will be aired on ESPN+ and Sunday's match can be viewed on ESPN3.

Drake (12-5, 10-4 MVC) swept SIU this past weekend, 3-0 and 3-1, to extend its winning streak to six games. This is the longest conference winning streak for the Bulldogs since the beginning of the 2017 Valley season. The first win was made possible by the third best hitting percentage (.275) of the season.

While many Bulldogs played well against SIU, Haley Bush stood out. Bush had a combined 39 kills over the two matches for a 5.57 kill per set average while hitting .265. She also had 41 digs over the pair of games including a career-high 27 digs in the second match. Bush's impressive performance led to her being chosen as the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week.

The Bulldogs have moved into second place in the conference going into the last series of the year. At this point, the Bulldogs could end up anywhere from first to fourth place, depending on many factors. If they sweep Loyola this weekend, the Bulldogs will clinch at least the No. 2 seed going into the tournament next week.

Loyola (8-7, 7-7 MVC) broke a four-match losing skid after winning its most recent match against UNI, 3-1. Emily Banitt led the Ramblers in the effort with 14 kills and 12 digs. This was Loyola's first time beating UNI in the series history. The Ramblers are holding on to sixth place in the conference and could drop to seventh place according to the outcome of this weekend.

Drake will move into the postseason after this weekend as the Tournament is scheduled to be played April 1-3. The Tournament will be hosted by Illinois State in Redbird Arena.
