The Drake University volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback Saturday evening in its series opener at Loyola.
Drake (12-6, 10-5 MVC) fell by set scores of 27-25, 25-22, 25-19 as Loyola hit .263 in its win.
Lindsey Pliapol paced Drake's attack with 15 kills on 37 attempts, while
Haley Bush had 11 kills and
Emily Plock posted nine kills and two blocks.
Kylee Macke tried to slow the Ramblers' attack with 15 digs.
Loyola (9-7, 8-7 MVC) was led by Emily Banitt's 11 kills and 10 digs while Kelsey Watson ahd 10 kills. Grace Hinchman and Kayla Krause combined for 29 digs.
Drake twice had set point in the opening set, but Loyola fought off both and closed the set with three-straight points, two on Drake errors to open the match with a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs tried to rally to win the second set as they went on a 5-0 run to pull within a point at 22-21 before Loyola took the frame.
Drake and Loyola were knotted at 16-16 in the final set, but Loyola again rallied to close and use a 9-3 run to take the set, 25-19, for the win.
The two teams close out their series and the regular season Sunday at 4 p.m.
