Maggie Bair of the Drake University women's basketball team has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week, the MVC announced Monday, March 8.
This is the second career MVC Player of the Week award for Bair, who earned her first on Dec. 29 prior to the start of MVC play for Drake.
Bair helped Drake earn a pair of wins over Valparaiso with two great performances the final weekend of the regular season. Bair averaged a double-double with 16.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game while shooting a blistering 83.3 percent from the field making 15-of-18 field goals.
Her biggest field goal was her final one that forced overtime in the second win and erased a five-point deficit with 53 seconds left against Valpo. She added 2.0 blocks and 1.5 assists per game. Bair started the weekend with her second-straight double-double with a then career-high 16 points and 10 rebounds behind 8-of-9 shooting and she added three blocks and two assists. Bair closed the weekend with another double-double with a career-high 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting and pulled down a career-high 15 rebounds and added one assist, one block and one steal.
For the season, Bair is averaging a career-high 8.1 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting a league-best 59.1 percent from the floor. She has six double-doubles this season, the second most in the MVC.
Bair and her teammates start the MVC Tournament Friday at 5 p.m. against the winner of Thursday night's Evansville versus Valparaiso contest. The entire MVC Tournament in Moline, Ill. will be streamed on ESPN+.
