FLOSSMOOR, Ill. – The Drake University men's golf team finished the first day of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship in seventh place with a two-round score of 314-316 – 630. Senior
Kyle MacDonald led the Bulldogs on the opening day with a 79-76 – 155.
MacDonald's 76 in the afternoon round was the Bulldogs' low score of the day and moved him into a tie for 14th place on the individual leaderboard. MacDonald carded a 35 on the front-side of that round to move up the leaderboard.
Two other Bulldogs finished the day in the top 30 as
Lucas Scherf posted a 77-80 – 157 to sit in 25th place while
Shayne Patel had a 79-80 – 159 to tie for 30th.
In the team standings, Loyola leads the field with an impressive first-round 291 followed by a 301 in the afternoon for a first-day total of 592. The Ramblers hold a 19-shot lead heading into the final day of action thanks in part to Devin Johnson firing a 3-under par 70-71 – 141 on the first day on the par-72 track at the Flossmoor Country Club.
Action resumes on the 7,070-yard course Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. for the final round of the event.
