Senior outfielder
Macy Johnson of the Drake University softball team has been selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Midwest All-Region First Team, the NFCA announced Thursday, May 20. This is the second NFCA Midwest All-Region honor for Johnson who was selected to the NFCA Midwest All-Region Third Team in 2019.
Johnson, who last week was named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team for the second time, had an outstanding 2021 season. She batted a career-high .444, which is a new single-season program record behind a career-best 68 hits, including four triples and she tallied 29 stolen bases. Her hits total is the fourth highest for a Bulldog in one season and her 29 stolen bases is a program record. The Winterset native leads the MVC in batting average, hits and stolen bases.
The awards honor softball student-athletes from the Association's 10 regions with first, second and third-team selections. NFCA member head coaches from each respective region voted on the teams, and all student-athletes now become eligible for the 2021 NFCA Division I All-America squads.
Johnson is expected to return for the 2022 season, utilizing the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA after the cancellation of the 2020 season due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
