122 Drake Relays Athletes To Compete In Tokyo Olympics

Blue Oval regulars aim to finish on the podium in Tokyo

The reputation of the Drake Relays presented by Xtream powered by Mediacom as one of the most prestigious athletic events in the country has never been more apparent as 122 total athletes that have recently competed at Drake Stadium are set to compete at the Tokyo Olympics.

"Our status as a World Athletics Silver Level event and the support of Mediacom continues to attract the top talent in the world to the Blue Oval and serve as springboard to the Olympic Games," said Blake Boldon, the Franklin P. Johnson Director of the Drake Relays. "We're honored that many of the Olympians in Tokyo are familiar names and faces at the Drake Relays. We look forward to cheering them on in Tokyo and continuing to welcome not only this generation of Olympians to Drake Stadium, but future Olympians as well."

The contingent of Drake Relays participants includes 48 American athletes and representatives of 29 other nations and five continents, solidifying the Relays reputation as a global event. Those athletes will compete in nearly 40 events in Tokyo. Nearly one-third of those athletes took to the Blue Oval this past year.

Fifteen of the Relays representatives in Tokyo are aiming to repeat as medalists after finishing on the podium at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Those include gold medalists Ryan Crouser (shot put), Katerina Stefanidi (pole vault) and Dalilah Muhammad (400mH).
