Sarah Bond has joined the Drake University volleyball coaching staff as an assistant coach, head coach
Darrin McBroom announced.
Bond joins the Bulldogs after serving as an assistant coach at her alma mater, the University of Illinois Springfield the last three seasons.
"I'm very thankful and excited for the opportunity to join the Bulldog family and work alongside such an amazing staff and group of talented athletes while keeping the momentum going from this past spring," Bond said. "As a native of Naperville, Ill., I am very familiar with many of the teams in the Missouri Valley Conference so I cannot wait to jump in and use my experience as a student-athlete and coach to make a positive impact on this program."
During her time at UIS, Bond was a part of the Prairie Stars' 2018 squad that set program records with a 25-8 overall record and a 15-3 conference mark. UIS won its first Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season championship in program history and also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.
The Stars made an additional conference tournament appearance the following season in 2019. Bond helped in the development of nine all-conference student-athletes, including two that earned all-region and NCAA All-America honors. UIS had one of the top defensive teams in the country including finishing third nationally in blocks, and ranked in the top-30 in NCAA Division II offensively in hitting percentage in her 2018 season. In addition to her on-court duties Bond oversaw all team operations and assisted in recruiting efforts.
Bond joined the Prairie Stars as the assistant coach in August 2018 following her playing career at the university.
Bond also coached for five seasons with Sports Performance Volleyball Club out of Aurora, Ill., where she assisted with high-level training camps across the country.
A native of Naperville, Ill., Bond played collegiately at the University of Illinois Springfield where she earned both her bachelor's degree in visual arts and master's degree in communications.
