The Drake University volleyball team takes on its final non-conference opponents of the season this weekend with three matches at South Dakota State.
The Bulldogs open the weekend with a 1 p.m. match against Idaho followed by a 5 p.m. contest against Southeastern Louisiana. The tournament concludes Saturday at 1 p.m. against the host, South Dakota State. The Bulldogs have won five-straight matches against SDSU with three 3-0 sweeps. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs last faced Idaho in 2013 with a 3-1 loss and have never taken on Southeastern Louisiana.
Last weekend the Bulldogs went 2-1 at North Dakota to improve to 2-3 on the season.
In those outings at UND, Drake's middle racked up big numbers as the Bulldogs outblocked their three opponents. The team had double-figure blocks in all three matches and opened the weekend with 14 blocks against Green Bay.
A pair of newcomers,
Maddie Holt and
Ashlynn Kuhn, led the way with 24 total blocks on the weekend while sophomore
Kacie Rewerts added 23 to earn a spot on the all-tournament team.
Following the conclusion of the non-conference slate, the Bulldogs come home to host Illinois State and Bradley Sept. 24 and 25.
