The Drake University women's basketball team heads to Illinois for a pair of Valley games. The Bulldogs face Bradley on Jan. 27 at 6:30pm and Illinois State Saturday Jan. 29 at 6pm.
The Bulldogs are coming off a win against in state rival UNI on Jan. 21. Drake was on a four-game losing streak prior to defeating UNI.
Freshman forward
Anna Miller earner Valley Newcomer of the Week honors for her performance against the Panthers. She led the Bulldogs with 16 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and two blocks.
The Bulldogs had four people record double digit scoring against the Panthers -- Miller 16 points,
Grace Berg 13 points,
Megan Meyer 11 points,
Maggie Bair 10 points.
Berg led the Bulldogs in assists against UNI, tallying a total of five throughout her 26 minutes on the court.
Bradley is on a 13-game losing streak after falling to SIU, 53-41, on Jan. 21.
The Braves lost fifth year guard Gabi Haack on January 1 when she tore her ACL against Illinois State.
Freshman guard Caroline Waite leads the Braves in scoring this season. She averages 12.2 points per game. In Bradley's last game, she scored 13 points.
Senior guard Tatum Koenig recorded 13 points against SIU alongside Waite. Koenig averages 9.8 points per game and leads the team in assists with 3.125 assists per game.
Junior forward Sierra Morrow leads the Braves in rebounding this season as she averages 5.2 per game and totals 68 on the season.
Illinois State won their last game against Missouri State, 62-61, on Jan. 22. Fifth year guard Juliunn Redmond led the Redbirds with 19 points.
Junior forward Deanna Wilson recorded a double-double when she tallied 16 points and 10 rebounds against the Bears.
Redmond and Wilson both average 14 points per game to lead the Redbirds in scoring this season. Wilson also averages 7.1 rebounds per game to lead Illinois State.
In their history with Bradley and Illinois State, Drake has lost its last two meetings with both teams. However, Drake leads the all-time series with both the Braves (62-18) and the Redbirds (48-37).
The Bulldogs will return home to Des Moines after their trip to Illinois for a pair of Valley home games.
