The Basics
The Drake University women's soccer team begins a quick Indiana road stretch starting on Thursday, Oct. 13 at Evansville with a 6 p.m. kickoff before getting back on the bus and traveling to Terre Haute to battle the Sycamores on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 12 p.m. (CT). Drake currently sits at 2-7-5 overall with a Missouri Valley Conference record of 1-2-3.
What Can Brown Do For You?
In the past three games, senior
Meghan Brown has scored two goals and recorded five shots. She scored in back-to-back games against Illinois State and UNI from Sept. 29-Oct. 6 after not scoring a goal in her first 59 career games. Brown now sits in a tie for second on the team with two goals alongside
Layla Kelbel.
Emma Nagel is the leading goal scorer on the team with three.
MVC Leaders
The trio of Brown, Kelbel and Nagel has combined for 39 shots, 21 shots on goal and seven goals. Senior
Rachel Panther is a force on the offensive side with a team-leading four assists and 21 shots. She ranks third in the MVC with four assists. In the past five games, Panther has recorded 11 shots and all four of her assists. Senior goalkeeper
Vianey Lopez continues her strong season with a MVC leading 60 saves. She had back-to-back matches with six total saves, her second highest save total this season.
Scouting Evansville
Evansville is coming off a 3-0 shutout loss to Valparaiso, which dropped the Purple Aces to 1-8-4 (0-5-2). The Aces are still searching for their first win since Aug. 28. Evansville has been outscored 6-1 in the past three games.
The offense is led by fifth-year player Emily Ormson with four total goals on the season. Ormson has scored two goals in the last four games, including consecutive goals against UNI and Southern Illinois. She leads the team with a commanding 27 shots including 21 shots on goal and ranks in the top-ten in the MVC for total shots. Sophomore Hailey Autenrieb and senior Sophia Rodil are the other Evansville players to record a goal this season with Autenrieb knocking in two and Rodil providing one goal.
Junior Myia Danek will prove to be tough against the Bulldogs with 27 total saves on the season. Danek has played just seven games this season. Her single-game high was six saves in her first start of the season against Vanderbilt on Aug. 18.
Series vs. Evansville
Drake leads the all-time series with a record of 14-10-2. The Bulldogs have not lost since 2016 and hold a road record of 7-6-1 versus the Purple Aces.
Scouting Indiana State
The Sycamores enter the week with an overall mark of 2-7-3 while carrying an even 2-2-2 conference record. Indiana State is 1-2-1 record in their last four games.
Drake's defense will have its eyes set on freshman Ella Gorrie, who is the lone player to score multiple goals this season for ISU. The Sycamores have six players who have recorded one goal this season.
The Sycamore defense is held together by senior goalkeeper Tara Hoffman who has made 34 saves in just six games. She has recorded six or less saves just twice and has made eight or more saves in three games. Her single-game high this year is nine saves against UNI on Oct. 2.
Series vs. Indiana State
The Bulldogs lead the all-time series with a 15-6-3 head-to-head record. Drake is 3-1-1 in its last five matches versus the Sycamores. Drake has been successful on the road with a 6-3-2 record and has outscored Indiana State 8-4 in the last five matchups.
