The Basics
Drake men's soccer will conclude their 2022-23 regular season schedule tomorrow with a mid-week match against UIC. The Bulldogs and Flames will rematch on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m. Drake will look to complete an undefeated home schedule against the Flames.
Bulldogs by the Numbers
Drake enters the week with a 6-3-4 overall record and 4-2-1 mark in conference action. The Bulldogs have gone 2-1-1 in their last four matches including a pair of shutout wins over Belmont and Bradley. Their most recent contest ended in a pivotal 1-1 draw at 16
th-ranked Missouri State.
The Drake offense is led by grad transfer AJ Franklin. The Illinois native has scored 15 total points on seven goals and one assist. He also leads the team with 35 total shots and 16 shots on goal. Other key offensive contributors include Sam Thornton with four goals and three assists, and
Louis Yuill with two scores. Timmy Browning and Damian Segura have also chipped in with two assists each.
Defensively, players like
Declan Watters and Ryder Barrett lead a strong defensive crew. Goalkeeper Jonathan Burke has started all 13 games for the Bulldogs with just 11 goals allowed, 57 total saves, and an .838 save percentage.
Scouting UIC
UIC will come to Des Moines with a 5-7-2 overall record and even 3-3-1 mark in MVC play. The Flames enter the week on a roll with wins in their last two matches, a 6-2 blowout at Bradley and 2-0 triumph over Evansville.
Josh Torres is UIC's leading scorer with 17 total points on eight goals and an assist. Torres leads the Flames with 36 total shots and 14 shots on goal. UIC has had a much more balanced offensive attack with eight other goal-scorers including Brian Perez and Paul Brauckmann with three. Christian Crespo leads the squad with four assists.
Andres Vasquez has been the primary keeper in goal with 1,080 minutes of action this season. Vasquez has made 36 saves and allowed 18 goals this season.
UIC leads the all-time series with the Bulldogs by a 5-2 margin. Drake picked up their second-ever win over the Flames in this season's first matchup with a 1-0 shutout in Chicago on Sept. 17.
