COLUMBIA, Mo. – Isaac Basten notched a Top-10 finish at the NCAA Cross Country Midwest Regional at Gans Creek Country Course to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Friday, Nov. 11. Drake women's cross country took 15th place as a team out of 32 squads while Drake men's cross country finished 10th out of 27 competing teams.
Brooke Mullins finished 40
th in the women's 6K with a time of 20:59.6.
Tyla Lumley (21:20.8) wasn't far behind in 64th place.
Emilie Meyer ran a personal record of 21:36.5 and moved up 19 spots in the final 1000 meters to claim 79
th. Freshman Katherine Lawson earned a PR finishing in 21:51.5.
Barbara Vrhovac (22:24.6) and
Ashlee Siegle (23:07.5) rounded out the Bulldog lineup.
"It was an awesome day," head coach
Jay Koloseus said. "I am so pleased to see Coach Bearss lead our ladies to a Top-15 finish and end the fall in the Midwest Regional Rankings."
Basten crossed the finish line ninth overall with his 10K personal best of 29:45.1.
Aziz Jdai utilized a great kick at the end of the race to take 28
th with a PR of 30:09.9.
Enzo Marie also set a new PR with his final time of 30:44.2 for 64
th place. Aidan Ramsey (31:13.1) landed in the Top-100 during his 10K debut. Senior
Pur Biel turned in his best 10K time of 31:44.3 to cap off the Drake scoring.
Juan Trasobares (31:57.2) and
Connor Visnic (32:05.4) both recorded personal records.
"I'm happy that the men got in the Top-10 again," Koloseus said. "Although some of our athletes struggled a bit over the longer 10K course, it was exciting to see Isaac qualify again."
Basten qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 19 in Stillwater, Okla.
