Five Women's Soccer Student-Athletes Earn All-MVC Honors

Emma Nagel, Meghan Brown, Rachel Panther, Avery Mertz and Madelyn Smith were honored with various awards at the MVC women's soccer banquet.

ST. LOUIS -- Drake women's soccer student-athletes Emma Nagel, Rachel Panther, Meghan Brown, Avery Mertz and Madelyn Smith were all recognized with All-Conference awards by the Missouri Valley Conference Wednesday evening (Nov. 2).

Nagel was named to the All-MVC First Team after leading Drake in goals with five. A pair of those goals were game winners and she scored two goals in the season opening victory at Kansas City. The Green Bay, Wis., native added an assist for a total of 11 points.

Brown experienced an offensive renaissance during her senior season for an All-MVC Second Team selection. She scored all four of her career goals in a stretch of five games this season with only seven shots on goal.

Another senior, Rachel Panther was critical to Drake's success in 2022 and that's why she earned a spot on the All-MVC Third Team. Panther led the team and ranked in the Top 5 in the conference with five assists. The Overland Park, Kan., native added two goals this season as both proved to be game winners.

Avery Mertz was placed on the All-MVC Third Team after anchoring the Bulldog defense at defensive center midfielder. From Weatherby Lake, Mo., Mertz boosted Drake to four shutouts including three straight entering MVC Tournament play.

Madelyn Smith joined Drake women's soccer this season and made an immediate impact that landed her a spot on the MVC All-Freshman Team. Smith contributed four assists, which was second on the team.

The 2022 Drake women's soccer season concluded against Murray State in the MVC Tournament on Oct. 27.
