Drake Dominates Howard in FIU Thanksgiving Classic Finale

Meyer goes for 16, Bair earns All-Tournament honors in rout

MIAMI, Fla. – Drake women's basketball picked up a convincing win on Sunday morning with a 90-67 thrashing of the Howard Bison. The Bulldogs went wire-to-wire in their blowout victory, improving to 3-2 on the season.

Maggie Bair started the scoring for Drake in the opening period. The senior forward had the first four points and six of the first nine for the Bulldogs. Megan Meyer also picked up where she left off with an early three-pointer.

The Bulldog bigs, including Bair, Grace Berg, and Anna Miller, had their way early in the action with 11 of the first 14 Drake points.

Later in the first half, multiple Drake players found their way into foul trouble including three starters. Meyer saw increased responsibility as the primary guard and capitalized, pouring in 16 more points after her career outing in the tournament opener.

Drake eventually built a substantial lead by the halftime break and led 46-28 after two quarters. Eight Bulldogs scored in the first half.

The second half saw much of the same with Drake firing on all cylinders. Sarah Beth Gueldner joined the fun as the ninth Bulldog to score with a pair of free throws and a triple midway through the third quarter.

Suzie Glazer Burt Head Coach Allison Pohlman eventually pulled her starters and emptied the bench as Drake cruised to a 97-60 triumph.

Meyer and Anna Miller each scored 16 points to lead the Bulldogs.

Maggie Bair also stood out with another 14 points and seven rebounds. Bair was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts over the two games.

"Our bench did a nice job contributing with rebounds, assists, defensive stops," Pohlman said. "They were very focused and engaged with no drop-off. One of the things we do really well is look for each other and we had an advantage in the paint and did a good job doing what we do best. We wanted to grow on the rebounding end. Our guards did a great job with that too. We focused on ball security as well, cut our turnovers in half, and had more opportunities to score."

Drake will return to the Knapp Center for their next contest. The Bulldogs will host Lindenwood on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. in Des Moines.
