Bulldogs Beat Bradley in Straight Sets, 3-0

Drake secures its sixth-consecutive sweep

PEORIA, Ill. – Drake volleyball continued their late-season roll with a 3-0 victory at Bradley on Friday evening. The Bulldogs earned their seventh-straight win and sixth-straight sweep with their win over the Braves. Drake is now 21-6 overall and 12-2 in MVC play.

Drake set the tone in the first set with an early 5-0 lead. The Bulldogs continued to open their advantage with kills by Kacie Rewerts and Haley Bush to go up 9-3. Bradley eventually battled back to trim Drake's lead to just one before the visitors went on another commanding rally. Drake worked through the rest of the first set with a comfortable lead and slammed the door with a 4-0 run to end the frame, 25-15.

The Bulldogs saw similar results in the second set with an early 5-2 advantage. Bradley worked back into contention and trailed by as few as two points before Drake took control of the period. The Bulldogs ended the 25-16 second set on a 7-1 run capped off by a Mariana Rodrigues kill.

Bradley provided some resistance in third set with a final of 25-23. The Bulldogs got out to an early two-point lead, but then traded scores with the Braves through most of the frame. Drake eventually rattled off an 8-1 run to take a 17-11 lead, but Bradley refused to quit. The Braves produced a 5-1 run of their own to get within two points in the latter stages of the period. Drake's advantage was just enough, though, as Taylor Oberpriller connected on a kill to secure the victory.

Mariana Rodrigues and Haley Bush led all players with 14 and 12 respective kills. Addison Beagle had another productive outing with a match-high 37 assists, 10 digs, and three service aces. Defensively for Drake, Ashlynn Kuhn led the way with four blocks while Jada Wills posted 20 digs.

"I thought we played a very efficient match tonight," Drake head coach Darrin McBroom said. "We had four hitters above .200 and that's great. Bradley played a tough match, but we had the edge. I continue to just be so proud of this team."

Drake will finish their final road trip of the 2022 regular season tomorrow evening at Illinois State. The Bulldogs and Redbirds will square off at 7 p.m.
